LuckyMarble / i3dthemes: Wordpress 'Theme' Tutorials
Section 8: Working with the Blog Page
Thank you for taking the time to review your Luckymarble 'Theme' Instructions. The more familiar you are in working with your software, or in this case, your WP- Admin panels, the faster you'll be able to create your site, and you'll spend less time updating the content once it's LIVE.
If you've made it this far in the instructions you probably have some interest in including the 'Blog' component in your website. After all, this is where Wordpress found it's roots. As far as instructions go for the 'Blog' there are only 2 theme related instructions we can really provide.
Aside from including the 'Blog' page in your 'themes' Navigation components, or setting the 'Blog' page as the 'home' page, nothing in the Blog has been modified from the default 'Blog' that's included in every Wordpress theme and website. We're not going to attempt to create our own Blog instructions as Wordpress.org has already done this for you. Luckymarble is definitely the place to learn how to work with and modify the 'theme' related elements of your Wordpress 'Theme' .. and now that you're moving on to working with the Wordpress 'Blog' the best place you can learn from is 'Wordpress.org'.
In this final section we're moving on from editing the 'Theme' related components and pages, and into working with the 'Blog'. We'll be migrating away from the LuckyMarble instructions and tutorials and moving over to 'Wordpress.org'. This is where you'll learn all there is to know about the Wordpress 'Blog', the power and flexibility of the Blog, and what you can do with it. Working with Pages is not to different from Editing Posts, there's just more 'features' to working with 'posts' than there is standard page content. We've already covered much of what you could learn from Wordpress, all you need now, is to polish up on the 'Blogging' aspect of the program, learn how to work with 'Posts', 'Categories' 'Tags' 'Slugs' and 'Comments'. All very 'Wordpressy' jargin I know.
For 'most' web masters the 'Blog' is not the focus of their websites, at least not to start with. If you've gotten this far, then your site is ready to go. The 'Blog' is just part of the 'ongoing' site management. You can learn about the 'Blog' page over time, as you build and manage your website. Simply including the 'Blog' page, will start the ball rolling. Add some posts, tell people what your website has been up to.. after all, that's really what a Blog does, it's a 'log' of what's been going on. As you update your site, add that info to your blog page to tell visitors what you've been up to recently. It's a great place to be a bit more personal with your visitors as well.
Let's start with the 3 main area's of Wordpress.org when it comes to learning about the Wordpress Blog. As you go through the information in the next section, you'll see we've linked the various screenshots to the information provided in the Wordpress Codex. This information will always be up to date and as Wordpress changes and updates, so will the information. As you learn and grow with the Blog, you'll find yourself referring more and more to the following three areas of Wordpress.org....
