Exercise 6-4: Cropping an Image
Cropping image allows us to be very specific about which part of the image we
want to display. This is a tool that you'll want to practice with a bit, as
there is a learning curve.
- to crop an image, open the image in the Edit Media panel
- using your 'mouse' simply left click on the image where you
want to 'start' the crop, and holding your mouse button down,
drag the cursor down or up, and left or right until you've
covered an area of the image that you want to display, and as
close to, but not less than, the minimum dimensions.

- as soon as you start to drag the mouse, you'll notice the (
Selection: ____ : ____ ) numbers display
- as you move your mouse over the image the width and height
will be displayed in the Selection boxes
- you can try to fiddle with the mouse until the numbers match
exactly, or very close without being under the minimum
dimensions
- you can also use an Aspect Ratio, which does require a bit
of math to figure out
- OR, the easier method, drag your mouse from start to end,
getting 'close' to what you need, then just type the height and
width into the Selection boxes
- once you type the height and width of the crop selection,
you can grab the 'cropped' area ( or the marching ants as
they've been called ) by just clicking you mouse into the middle
( you'll see the cursor change to the 4 arrows as you place your
mouse over the crop selection ) .. just click and hold, then
move the 'crop' selection into place
