Section 4: Working with Pages

Exercise 4-1: Edit Page Settings

Edit Pages Admin Panel

The Pages >> Edit or Pages >> Add New menu allows you to quickly access all the tools required to create and manage your web pages. To create or manage your web pages:

  • click on the 'Pages' menu, then the 'Edit' menu

Now, let's review some of the things you'll find on the Edit Pages admin panel

Screen Options

Screen options allows you to change the information displayed within the 'Edit Pages' admin page, you can select to display the 'Author' 'Comments' and 'Date' as well as select the number of 'Pages' to display in the list at one time

  • click the 'Screen Option' menu to display your options panel

  • click the 'Screen Options' menu button when finished with your settings

Help

The 'Help' menu provides a direct link to the Wordpress 'Documentation and 'Forums'

  • click the 'Help' menu to display the Wordpress 'Documentation and Support Forums' links

  • both of these links provide invaluable information, especially for users wanting to learn how to 'blog' and advanced users wanting to learn more about Wordpress.

Search Pages
With the search box you can enter a word, or series of words, and click the "Search Pages" button to search and display all the Pages meeting your search words. A time saver for sites with 'lots' of pages.
  • enter your search term into the search box and press the 'Search Pages' button
  • this will search for words in your web pages, so if you cant' recall what page in your site you've type some information, this tool will find it for you if you can recall some of the 'words' used in that information

All ( ** ) | Published ( ** ) | Draft ( * )
The 'All' 'Published' and 'Drafts' numbers show how many pages you have in total (All) , how many pages you've published (Published) and how many pages are in draft, waiting to be published or trashed (Drafts)

Pages Listing
The list in the middle of your admin page displays a list of pages in your site. You can change the number of pages being displayed through the 'Screen Options' panel. You can scroll through the pages by clicking on the 'Display' numbers to the right

  • hover over a 'Page' name to display additional options for editing
